Layout Details

For 2021, this will be an in-person tour of this indoor model railroad.

Note: This will be the second Pilgrimage appearance of this layout by our first "Junior Host" Timothy Munnell.  Just 15 years old when his layout debuted in 2019, the now seventeen year old Tim has continued his exploration of  the model railroad hobby.   From his original layout, Tim worked hard and at times struggled to resolve his layout design and bench work.  With assistance from Piedmont Division members and Tim’s father, Doug, the basic track work and electrical were completed in time for the 2019 Pilgrimage.  Since then, he has been developing some sidings and his main town of Paris, Illinois.  We hope you will visit Tim’s layout and encourage him to continue with the progress he has made.

Layout Description:

My layout began as a small loop that got bigger and bigger.  Now it covers as much of the basement as possible.  After many redesigns, it is now Pilgrimage-ready!  It is a big loop with a town center and a small yard; but now a temporary tunnel has been constructed with plans to build tracks up to the top. Because it was a loop, there was difficulty in determining a site as a prototype.  Then my father found Paris, a town in Illinois that has tracks on three sides of its downtown. With a tunnel on the fourth side a midwestern rail junction was found.
