November is National Model Railroad Month! The Piedmont Division of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) celebrates November with a public "tour" of great model railroads in the Atlanta Area.
The Piedmont Division recognizes the late Bob McIntyre, who founded the concept of the Piedmont Pilgrimage in 2003. Along with Howard Goodwin, Bob helped launch the inaugural Piedmont Pilgrimage that year with 12 model railroad layouts on tour. Since then, the Piedmont Division has continued recognizing National Model Railroad Month every year with this event, which featured over 70 layouts in 2019.
As of 2020, we also honor and remember the late Gary Jarabek, who so capably and faithfully served as the Chairperson of this event from 2014 through 2019.
Open House Layout Tours
Because of COVID-19 concerns last year, the 2020 Piedmont Pilgrimage was "virtual", with video-only layout tours. With the pandemic now on the decline in our area, and with revised CDC and local government guidelines for in-person gatherings, we now expect to return to at least some "open house" tours for 2021.
As always, the Piedmont Pilgrimage layout tour program is open to anyone interested in model railroading. There is no charge or registration required, and you do not have to be a member to be our guest.
We would love for you to join us as we celebrate National Model Railroad Month in November by visiting some of Atlanta's best model railroad layouts this November! Please share with your friends and family!
Spreading the Word
The goal of the NMRA is to promote the fantastic hobby of model railroading, and a great way to learn about the hobby is to see for yourself the wonderful work of the Atlanta area's experts. We are fortunate here in Georgia to have an incredibly large collection of outstanding model train craftsmen. All of them are very friendly and glad to invite you in to look at their work. We are definitely looking forward to having more of our traditional "open house" in-person tours back again this fall!
Please note that we are not producing a printed "Tour Booklet" for the Pilgrimage this year, but you will find the event schedule and other details posted here on the Piedmont Pilgrimage website, as they become available.
